In a significant move to bolster security and public safety, the Noida authority has greenlighted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the ambitious Safe City project. The initiative will see the installation of 2,100 high-definition CCTV cameras across 212 key locations throughout the city, with the aim of enhancing law enforcement’s ability to monitor public spaces in real time. This extensive e-surveillance plan is a crucial step toward improving the safety and security infrastructure in Noida.

The approval, granted by CEO Lokesh M, marks a major milestone in the project. With the DPR now in place, the next step is to send the proposal to the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi) for technical evaluation and budget finalization. IIT-Delhi will assess the cost estimates, after which the Noida authority will proceed to select an agency for the project’s execution.
“We are on track to begin the next phase of the Safe City project. The DPR approval is a crucial step forward, and once IIT-Delhi completes the vetting, we will initiate the process to tender for an agency to carry out the work,” said RP Singh, General Manager of the Noida authority.
A Step Toward Enhanced Public Safety
Once implemented, the cameras will be strategically placed at vital city hotspots, with the live feed transmitted to a central control room located in Sector 94. This will ensure that law enforcement can monitor public areas continuously and respond swiftly to incidents. The system aims not only to deter crime but also to assist in solving cases with the help of live footage.
While the total projected budget for the Safe City project is estimated to be around ₹200 crore, the final amount will only be confirmed once IIT-Delhi completes the technical evaluation.
“We expect the project to be completed by the end of 2025. The selected agency will be responsible for laying down optical fibre cables, erecting poles, and installing both face recognition and other high-definition cameras at strategic locations,” said Singh.
Supporting Existing Systems for Better Security
This initiative comes on the heels of Noida’s ongoing efforts to enhance traffic and law enforcement systems. The city has already deployed an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) at major intersections, including those along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The ITMS supports real-time traffic monitoring and enables the police to issue fines online for violations.
The Safe City initiative, however, goes beyond just traffic management. It aligns with the Uttar Pradesh government’s vision to bring the entire city under a comprehensive e-surveillance system. This broader surveillance network aims to reduce crime rates and streamline law enforcement responses across Noida.
"The goal is not only to improve the ability to respond to crimes but also to prevent them before they occur," Singh added. The control room will be central to this effort, allowing police to view real-time footage and swiftly intervene in critical situations.
Conclusion: Strengthening Noida's Safety Framework
With its ambitious scope and strong governmental backing, the Safe City project is poised to significantly improve public safety in Noida. The project will ensure that law enforcement can act with greater efficiency and speed, thanks to the power of real-time surveillance and advanced technology. As the implementation progresses, Noida's streets are set to become safer, and citizens can look forward to enhanced security measures that aim to prevent and solve crimes more effectively.
